Disposal

Proper disposal of used batteries Separate and safe disposal of used batteries

Electrical equipment and batteries

Electrical equipment and batteries contain valuable raw materials that can be recovered in the interest of conserving resources. However, they may also contain hazardous substances that can harm human health and the environment. For this reason, waste electrical equipment and used batteries must always be disposed of properly and in accordance with regulations.

The following information applies to users in Germany. For users outside Germany, the local disposal regulations apply and can be obtained from the relevant authorities or from the local distributor.

Separate disposal of waste equipment and used batteries

Symbol durchgestrichene Abfalltonne auf Rädern (WEEE)

The crossed-out wheeled bin symbol shown indicates the legal obligation of the owner or end user to dispose of waste electrical equipment and used batteries separately and not together with unsorted municipal waste (“household waste”).

Wherever possible, used batteries must be removed from the device without damage and in a discharged state. Before removing the batteries, the device and the measuring connections must be disconnected from the mains. In this context, please also observe the information and recommendations in the product documentation as well as the warning notices printed on the devices.

The user is responsible for deleting all personal data and other sensitive data from the waste device before handing it in.

Important shipping information: When shipping waste electrical equipment or used batteries, you are required to package them securely. Please note: Depending on their nominal energy, lithium-containing batteries are classified as dangerous goods and are therefore subject to the applicable dangerous goods regulations. In this context, please also observe the product documentation enclosed with the respective products. For safe shipping or handover, the terminals of used batteries must be covered with insulating adhesive tape. This reduces the risk of short circuits, which can pose a significant fire hazard.

Outside Germany, disposal takes place locally. Please only send waste electrical equipment or used batteries to us from abroad for disposal in exceptional cases if this is permitted under the applicable legal regulations, if you have obtained the necessary official approvals, and if we have expressly agreed to this procedure in writing.

The Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Protection, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN) publishes annual data on the collection and recycling of electrical and electronic equipment as well as on the quantitative targets achieved in Germany. This information can be found at:
